COMPANY HISTORY

Irish Aberdeen-Angus Producers Ltd was formed in 1995 by six Angus breeders with the aim of co-ordinating the production and marketing of their unique product on the Irish and European market. They subsequently formed a processing and marketing alliance with the major Irish beef processors.

This strategy has proven to be extremely successful in that numbers of cattle slaughtered for the scheme have grown from 49 per week in 1995 to in excess of 28,000 annually. Also membership has grown from 22 members in 1995 to over 2,000.

OUR PROUD BEEF TRADITION

Angus cattle have long been synonymous worldwide with beef of the highest quality, recognised by retail butchers, master chefs and discerning consumers. Angus, as a brand name, is probably unique in agriculture for its recognition both as a traditional beef cattle breed name and as a hallmark of the finest quality in butchers’ shop windows and on gourmet restaurant menus.

These hardy black cattle have long endeared themselves to farmers for their easy breed qualities, docility of temperament and ability to thrive and mature early on simple, natural, home-grown fodder. Most importantly for the consumer, the “marbling” and texture of Angus beef ensures its natural succulence, tenderness and flavour without the expensive, forced and often unnatural feeding required for producing beef in other breeds.

Certification

Irish Aberdeen-Angus Producers Ltd are the sole agents, with an agreement, to operate the Certified Angus Beef Scheme on behalf of the Irish Angus Cattle Society Ltd. In 1997 the Irish Angus Cattle Society Ltd applied to the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food & Patents Offi ce Authorities under The Trade Mark Act 1996 (application number 1051 – 97) to have the title “Irish Angus” registered under the provisions of section 55 of The Trade Marks Act 1996, as a certification trade mark.

Each meat plant slaughtering Certified Irish Angus cattle is certified by the Irish Aberdeen- Angus Producers Ltd as suitable to do so. This certification is also available to wholesalers and food outlets that meet the standards set out by Irish Aberdeen-Angus Producers Ltd.

Assuring consistent supply of quality product

One of the keys of the success of our Group has been the high regard our customers hold us in. This customer loyalty has been gained by always achieving the correct quality product on time 52 weeks per year.

This supply is co-ordinated through our 2,000 members by a full-time dedicated team consisting of a General Manager and two office staff who track and match supply of cattle between farmers and AIBP Cattle Procurement Managers. Long term plans are drawn up with supplier/members in order to ensure an adequate supply of cattle in periods of off season production.
